I have the dreaded orange light and restricted performance message on my Jaguar S-Type 2005 2.7l Diesel SE. It is not on constantly or from cold, but appears between 20 and 50 miles in to a journey, but not every time. It seems to come and go between trips. Other possibilities near the top of the long list of causes are, split intercooler, leaking hose, cracked inlet manifold, turbo fault, turbo bypass fault. I have a 2004 S type 2.7 diesel and the restricted performance message and amber engine light has come on. This reduces the acceleration down to low revs and therefore could be dangerous. If i turn the ignition on and of a few times the message goes away but amber light stays on. I was having the same problem with my S Type - 2.7 diesel, and the AA indicated that there was one EGR Valve that was using the problem. I got my mechanic [top man] to look at it and while he ordered a new EGR valve he had misgivings but felt that it could be somewhere in the exhaust causing the problem. The exhaust is a stainless steel one. ptOQ.
